Make The Most Of Your Budget With High Speed Industrial Doors

The end of the financial year marks the end of your current budget. If you have any surplus left over then now is the time to either lose it to HMRC, or use it on an investment that will immediately benefit your business; high speed industrial doors.

Read on to plan ahead and make the most of your savings with this smart end of financial year investment.

Invest In High Speed Industrial Doors

Don’t rush to spend your remaining budget just yet!

For many businesses, opting to ‘use it’ rather than ‘lose it’ often leads to rushed investments or unnecessary purchases made without long-term goals in mind. Planning ahead will help you to avoid any panic purchases, and will also make it easier to leverage all the tax incentives open to you; most importantly, the Annual Investment Allowance, or AIA.

This allowance lets you deduct the cost of assets for business purposes from your pre-tax profits. The total amount you can claim is up to £1 million in capital allowance tax breaks for equipment and machinery, so if you were hoping to upgrade to high speed industrial doors at some point then now is the time to do so.

Capital Allowances On High Speed Industrial Doors

Claiming capital allowances on business purchases secures immediate savings not only on your business’ taxable profit for the year, but also on the cost of brand new doors. By using surplus capital that would otherwise have been paid as tax you can invest in doors that will tackle operational efficiencies and have a real long term impact on your business, without having to cut into your savings.

Our high speed doors are suitable for both internal and external access points to facilitate the fast movement of products and personnel in, out, and around your premises. They are a low-risk, high-gain investment that will

  • Reduce your energy consumption,
  • Protect your temperature-controlled zones,
  • Cut waiting times at access points,
  • Keep your operations on-track,
  • And keep money in your business for years to come.

Does this sound like an EOY investment that is too good to miss? Make the most of your remaining budget for the year by:

1. Installing High Speed Doors

In order to claim tax relief in line with the AIA you will need to purchase the doors, or arrange to finance them, and have them installed at your premises before the end of the financial year.

If you miss the April deadline then you’ll miss the opportunity to use your purchase towards this year’s tax allowances, so don’t delay. We offer 7 day fast-track delivery on several of our high speed industrial doors, including our Zip Speed and Turbo Fold doors, so browse them all today and request this option when placing your order.

2. Investing in Access Control Systems

Our high speed doors come with a standard opening speed of 1000mm per second, so make the most of their fast action capabilities with access control systems.

Our doors are compatible with a range of access solutions, from motion detectors that automatically open the doors to timers that close them after a set time. Integrating your new assets with a bespoke control system will keep delays, bottlenecks and operation setbacks to an absolute minimum, so put your excess budget towards a bespoke control system to further improve workflow across your premises.

3. Choosing A Self-Repairing System

Rushing into purchases at the end of the financial year is not only a poor use of your surplus budget, but may also end up costing you more in the long run if the equipment is not right for your needs or fails to integrate into your existing processes.

Choosing the wrong equipment also comes with a risk of breakdowns, which are not only a safety hazard but a knock-on expense too, so avoid these risks today by opting for a self-repairing system. A special reinsertion system, activated if the door is ever dislodged, is included with our curtain-based systems and resets it within just one open and close cycle, sparing you from expensive repairs, delays, and energy loss.

The Importance of High Speed Doors for Energy Efficiency

Keeping energy consumption down is no longer a cost-saving measure – it is a key priority for every British business that hopes to keep its doors open. Gas and electricity prices have now reached their highest level in over 10 years, costing UK businesses £46.8 billion and £59.8 billion each year, and having a knock-on effect on operating costs across industries.

The need for temperature-controlled industrial premises is not going away, but neither are these inflated prices – not whilst the UK relies overwhelmingly on non-renewable energy to keep the lights on and power their operations. So, if you’re looking to conserve energy across your workplace and keep costs to a minimum, then it’s time to find out what our energy-saving high speed doors offer you.

Our High Speed Doors

Even the slightest change in temperature, whether this be a gust of wind or escaped air through an open door, will result in heat loss or gain across your premises. This will then cause the temperature control systems to consume even more energy in an attempt to stabilise the temperature before it has the chance to affect your products or production processes.

For most businesses, these knock-on costs are an unaffordable expense, but they are also often unavoidable. Conventional doors take a lot of time to operate manually and this gives high pressure winds, external contaminants, and even rain or snow the opportunity to enter your premises whilst waiting for the door to close. This is why we specialise in manufacturing and installing high speed doors that offer a solution.

From our Zip Speed Doors to our Turbo Fold Doors, our fast-acting systems are a simple yet highly effective way of maintaining controlled environments across commercial and industrial premises. With an average operating speed of up to 1 metre per second and a compact roll-up design, our doors reduce the amount of time spent opening and closing doors, so let’s take a look at the impact our systems will have on your premises.

Reduced Heat Loss

Many businesses have started to turn the heating down during the winter to cut down on their energy bills, leaving their employees to work in cold and uncomfortable conditions. However, for many businesses, even this last resort is not an option.

Most production processes, from food and drinks to medical supplies and perishable goods, require a consistent temperature to preserve the products and prevent any quality control issues. This means that businesses have to keep the temperature control systems running at all times, even when there are no employees on site, so reduce any changes in temperature and prevent any spikes in energy consumption with our energy saving doors.

Not only do they reduce the time that doors spend open to ensure that only the minimum amount of heat is lost, but they also present a formidable barrier against the elements. Almost all of our doors have been wind load tested to Category 5, and the insulation value of our dual doors reduces heat loss even further without sacrificing speed.

Automatic Operation

There is no point in having top-of-the-line energy efficient doors installed if you cannot trust your team to keep them closed. It is easy to accidentally leave a door or shutter open when loading and unloading goods, particularly if you have a tight time limit, but these doors cannot perform properly unless they are quickly closed once the loading process is finished.

This is why we manufacture each door with an inverter drive and push-button control to make closing it as quick and easy as possible. Our doors are also compatible with a range of access features to ensure they never remain open for longer than necessary, including an alarm that alerts users if they do. You can also integrate your door with an automatic system that closes the door after a set period of time, so be sure to talk to our team about the access control options available when placing your order.

No Accidents

If a door unexpectedly breaks or becomes dislodged, then your business will be affected in more ways than one. Whilst this comes with an obvious loss of heat and energy and all the costs associated with this, a compromised temperature-control area will have catastrophic consequences on entire shipments of products.

If you manufacture or store products that have to be kept at, or below, a certain temperature, then our energy saving doors are the best choice for your business. They come with a  self-repairing reinsertion system that allows the door to recover its position with one open and closing cycle if it is ever dislodged. Since our doors operate at (on average) 1.5 metres per second, your door will only be compromised for a very short time, and options like our Dual Doors are also manufactured with a safe drive motor unit and a built-in frequency inverter to prevent any derailment in the first place.

Scaling Operations

Rising energy prices are affecting UK businesses in unforeseen ways, as many companies now find themselves unable to scale their operations. Funds that would otherwise be invested in growth initiatives are instead being used to cover energy costs and businesses are increasingly prioritising cost-saving measures over their growth ambitions.

This halts a business’s attempts to expand their operations or move to bigger premises, as there is no reason to scale up operations that require temperature-controlled zones and a further increase in energy use – unless you are going to secure these areas with reliable fast-action doors?

Our range is manufactured to tackle these energy costs head on with great insulative properties, super fast roll up designs and self-repairing systems that reduce the risk of operational setbacks, so contact us today to invest in these energy solutions for your busy industrial openings.

Industrial Door and Shutter Installation at Cotswold Airport

At the beginning of December, our skilled team completed a huge project at Cotswold Airport, which involved the installation of four industrial door systems, a large shutter installation and a cladding modification.

The famous airport, which was built for the RAF in 1936, has housed some of the most prestigious military divisions in the world, including the Red Arrows, the US Air Force and the British Army.

In recent times, the facility has been used for more commercial purposes, as its buildings are now home to many local businesses.

The airport has also featured on several popular TV programmes, including Top Gear, Casualty and Fifth Gear.

We were asked by Rapid Packing, who are one of the largest racking companies in the UK, to supply and install four high-speed doors to help improve their security and productivity.

Over a four-week period, we achieved this by installing three Turbo Fold doors, a Zip Speed door and a Tubular Shutter door.

Turbo Fold Doors

Turbo Fold doors were a great choice for this busy industrial environment, as they can open and close very quickly, allowing for a much higher level of traffic flow.

Besides being fast, rapid folding doors are also great for reducing heat loss, saving energy and managing noise contamination.

Zip Speed Doors

Similar to the Turbo Fold Doors, the installation of a Zip Speed door will significantly enhance the client’s efficiency and energy-saving capabilities.

Using a smart roll-up design, our Zip Speed doors will help to save vital time that was once lost waiting for slow, heavy roller shutter doors to open.

Additionally, they will act as a strong defence barrier against any airborne pollution that is created by military aircraft and vehicles that are outside.

One-off Shutter Installation

Besides installing new industrial doors, Rapid Packing also wanted us to replace their existing hangar doors, which were extremely thick and heavy and were a struggle to open and close daily.

Following the instructions of our client, we designed a new, more secure entrance to the hangar, along with supporting steelwork.

This new design included the installation of a one-off Premier 3 Phase Shutter and a single steel door set with cladded sheet infill, which we produced at our manufacturing facility in Smethwick.

Thanks to our installation, the team at Rapid Packing, who were very happy with our work and service, are now able to operate a lot more efficiently.

Safety first approach for commercial door installations

Safety is of upmost importance within the manufacturing sector and there has been great progress made in recent years to improve the already high standards of safety for commercial doors.

Despite this, reports of accidents involving industrial door systems in commercial premises still occur from time to time, the majority of which could have been easily avoided.

customised industrial door shutters

Here we look at a few of the ways that accidents can be prevented, making door installations safer and more efficient for the businesses that they serve.

Trained operators

When the correct guidelines are followed, industrial door installations on commercial premises can be used hundreds of times each day without issue. At UK Rapid Doors we encourage our customers to train their operatives in the safe use of new industrial door installations, making them fully aware of safety procedures so accidents can be avoided.

Best Practice

The vast majority of accidents involving industrial doors occur when health and safety guidelines and best practice are not adhered to. Businesses in the UK are required by law to have a health and safety procedure in place, and it is highly recommended that the safe use of industrial door installations is integrated into those policies.

Professional installation

Potential safety issues with a new industrial door system will be addressed at the point of design and installation, so choosing an experienced and professional supplier will go a long way to ensuring all safety standards are met. As such, thorough safety testing should be a key part of fitting any new commercial door system.

Scheduled maintenance

Though modern commercial door installations are manufactured to a very high quality and can function for many years, maintenance is still an important factor in assuring that a system runs safely. We recommend scheduled checks to be made on old and new doors, just to make sure that everything is working as it should.

Cutting commercial energy costs with efficient door systems

A recent report has found that average electricity prices are 50% more expensive for small businesses than for much larger commercial consumers.

These worrying findings, underlined in Ofgem’s recent ‘State of the Energy Markets’ report, suggests that retail markets typically work well for larger businesses, but small and micro businesses can expect to pay far more on average.

The reports states that smaller business pay more for electricity bills because, unlike their larger counterparts, they are unable to negotiate good deals with suppliers and very rarely choose to switch to alternative providers.

Indeed, more than half (58%) of smaller companies have never switched suppliers or have moved on just a single occasion.

Cost effectiveness

With more than 60% of small business customers on poor value deals, which can be around £300 more expensive each year than the cheapest fixed term deals, it’s important to look at alternative ways to drive down energy costs for your business.

For businesses that require fast access to their working premises, conventional doors can prove effective but expensive to run, so upgrading to efficient door systems offers a great way to lower electricity costs for your business.

At UK Rapid Doors we offer energy efficient fast acting door systems which provide a fantastic solution for busy industrial premises. Suitable for high traffic flow, these fast action systems dramatically reduce running costs, heat loss and the working time lost whilst waiting for antiquated roller shutter doors to open.

Because modern automated commercial doors benefit from a high level of technical  design and are made from resilient, first-rate materials, they also offer far greater longevity that older installations and a significantly lower requirement for replacements and repairs, saving even more money in the long-run!

UK Rapid Door Systems offer a wide range of bespoke efficient door systems, click here to find out more.

Industrial Doors for Effective Winter Energy Saving

Winter Energy Saving is essential in the colder months with many industrial premises find their energy bills soar as they battle to maintain a comfortable working environment whilst the temperatures outside drop.

A recent study in the food and drink industry, for example, found that businesses could make energy savings of up to 20% if they addressed problems such as poorly insulated doors and windows and improved overall building energy management.

So, how can your choice of industrial doors help you save money on your winter energy bills?

Making the switch to insulated doors, particularly in areas of high traffic flow and where the outside meets the inside, can save your business money.

These rapid speed industrial doors, such as our insulated dual door, operate at a speed of up to 1000mm per second, thus keeping heat loss to a minimum as doors open and close quickly.

Watch our video below to see our insulated dual door in action:

Not only does the double skin lath on this product enable good heat retention properties, but it also gives you added security – another important factor when choosing your industrial doors.

How a Zip Speed Door Can Improve Your Workflow

Within every industrial and commercial sector, whether logistics, retail, food, automotive or storage, it’s essential that an optimised workflow around entries and openings, or an efficient loading and unloading of goods is maintained.

High speed doors, such as a zip speed door, are valuable for efficient operations, as operating a slow door at crucial areas of traffic, can lead to a bottleneck and a slowed down workflow. Equally, if an obstruction should occur in or around the opening, a fast acting door would be able to easily and quickly recover and minimise disruption. Although a relatively new industrial and commercial door to the market, Zip Speed doors are seeing an increased uptake for usage across a range of environments – factories, warehouses, distribution centres, and cold storage facilities. Zip Speed doors provide a highly durable, resilient and efficient solution to enhance a fluid workflow across these different environments and ease pressure from high-traffic areas.

How does a Zip Speed door system work?zip speed industrial door

Zip, high speed doors can be used to optimise both exterior and interior openings, as they can tightly seal off your vicinity from harsh outdoor conditions and hygienically separate different sections within. Using latest technologies, Zip Speed doors feature an automated roll up design, simply slotting into compact free-standing side and head columns.

With a push of a button, either mounted beside the door or through a handheld remote device, the door will initiate, acting with a high speed for ease of use and efficiency. Zip Speed doors include options for motion detectors, to effectively respond to moving objects within or outside of the opening in all weather conditions. Additionally, induction loop detectors can be fitted so that the zip door reacts to stationary or moving vehicles. It will ignore pedestrians, so that inbound or outbound deliveries or goods can be transported smoothly and without stopping.

Boosting work performance

With increased efficiency, a Zip Speed door is an ideal system for busy industrial and commercial facilities, where time is valuable. In the event of an accident, where the door is dislodged on impact, an intelligently designed self-repairing system will be activated. The flexible zip, high speed door will recover its position with just one open and closing cycle, without damaging any obstructions. This makes them a reliable solution to minimise the impact of problems with workflow and the build-up of traffic.

As a strong, fast and durable door, Zip Speed doors reduce draughts and heat loss, so that desired temperatures can be maintained and energy savings can be made. This is why they are ideal for cold storage, clean room or food operations, where regulated temperatures and hygiene are critical to business. The Zip Speed doors will effectively keep out pests and vermin or dirt, as they are heavy-duty and have minimal opening time. As a highly resilient door, they are also wind load tested to category 5, providing greater protection for personnel and goods from extreme weather.
