Our Full Guide To The Different Types of Roll Up Doors

At UK Rapid Door Systems, we know that a facility’s success starts at the entrance with access features that overcome the daily pitfalls of busy industrial operations. In our considerable experience, this requires moving beyond conventional doors and opting for one of the many different types of roll up doors that we manufacture in-house, right here in the heart of the Midlands.

Key Points:

  • Space-Saving: All our types of roll up doors are stored in compact head columns.
  • Fast-Acting: The speeds offered range from 800mm to 2000mm per second.
  • Made-to-Order: Our doors are custom-made to your exact measurements and requirements.

Types of Roll Up Doors

Manufactured with either a galvanised double skin lath or a fabric ZIP curtain, these space-saving systems offer optimal operational efficiency by rolling up and out of the way at rapid speeds. Each door operates with a fold-up motion which automatically collects the curtain as it rises, before storing it in the compact head column – out of sight, and out of the way.

Complete with an inverter drive, push button station, and even a self-repairing system (we’ll explore this in more detail later), there is no better choice than a roll up door from UK Rapid Door Systems, but which option is the right choice for your premises?

Let’s find out together.

Zip Speed Door

First up, our Zip Speed Door. A popular choice owing to its ability to reduce wait times at key access points, this curtain system has also been designed to provide protection against wind pressures up to Category 5 and reduce draughts for stable internal temperatures.

Like all our roll up doors, it is available in a range of RAL colours, with special colours available upon request.

Operating Speed: Up to 1 metre per second.

Recommended For: Industrial and commercial premises, including sales floors and warehouses.

Insulated Dual Door

Whilst little time is lost waiting for our Insulated Dual Door to open and close, its insulation value of 4.8W/m2K ensures that only the minimum amount of heat is lost whilst the door is open. The system is also a highly effective security measure, with 95mm deep insulated lath that (unlike conventional doors that swing outwards and get in the way) is easily stored in the head column.

Operating Speed: 800mm to 1000mm per second.

Recommended For: Premises with high traffic flow across their temperature-controlled areas.

Turbo Fold Door

With a maximum width of 12000mm, and a maximum height of 10000mm, the Turbo Fold Door is designed for large industrial openings. Despite its size, it operates just like any other roll up door, with a fold-up motion and a vertical frame to let forklifts, pallet stackers, and even delivery vehicles pass through without any obstructions.

Operating Speed: 1 metre per second.

Recommended For: All external and internal openings, with the exception of clean rooms and other sterile areas.

Turbo Roll Door

Offering even faster speeds of up to 1.5 metres per second, the Turbo Roll Door minimises drafts, prevents airborne pollution, and reduces heat loss, but don’t let these rapid speeds be a cause for concern. Our innovative self-repairing system activates upon impact and automatically resets the door within just one cycle to protect your goods from all external conditions.

Operating Speed: Up to 1.5 metres per second.

Recommended For: Industrial applications including clean rooms and food preparation units.

Ice Freezer Door

Our Ice Freezer Door offers the operating speeds required to maintain temperatures between +70 °C and -30°C, ensuring that it is only ever open for as long as is absolutely necessary. An integral heating system, twin skin construction, and (of course) self-repairing system all come as standard to further guarantee consistent temperatures and ongoing performance.

Operating Speed: Up to 1500mm per second (available upon request).

Recommended For: All cold store applications, such as chilled or frozen storage units.

Clean Room Door

The fastest door system available in our range, the Clean Room Door is designed to meet all your clean room storage needs. From its stainless steel side and head columns to its IP65 control equipment, every design decision has been made to provide a secure barrier against contamination and maintain the required conditions for your facility.

Operating Speed: Up to 2 metres per second.

Recommended For: Clean rooms, controlled storage facilities, and cold stores.

Our Guide to Roller Shutter Doors Maintenance

Roller shutter doors maintenance is key for several reasons. In addition to making sure that your door system is working correctly, it is also important to have it checked and repaired when needed for employee and visitor safety and to abide by regulations.

Working with our team means you will receive a reliable maintenance service, as no one understands our door systems better. To learn more about the type of roller shutter door systems we install and tips on when to book for a maintenance service, continue reading.

What Type of Roller Shutter Doors Do We Work With?

Here at UK Rapid Doors we manufacture and install a range of quality roller shutter doors. These door systems are great for security, safety, privacy and efficiency for your business premises. For example, our Turbo Fold High Speed Door is an ideal energy solution for high traffic flow industrial openings. In addition to significantly reducing heat loss, noise contamination and airborne pollution, it also saves on time waiting for doors to open compared to a conventional roller shutter door.

We also have retail security shutters for when your premises require additional security for your team and stock. Our high performance security roller shutters are custom built in the West Midlands and are suitable for a range of retail and commercial environments.

Once we have fitted our door systems, we can also provide a regular roller shutter door maintenance service to help you to prolong the product’s life.

What Are The Signs Roller Shutter Doors Maintenance Is Needed?

In addition to abiding by regulations, prioritising maintenance for your roller shutter doors can help you to spot issues earlier to avoid expensive and unexpected repairs. Therefore, the first thing we advise is when you have your roller shutter doors installed, ask our team when they recommend for you to schedule in for your first maintenance service for your specific design and make sure to pencil this into your calendar. This will help to check for potential faults and address them as needed.

Secondly, routinely look over your door system for any signs of concern in the meantime. For example, look out for signs of dirt and debris build up, as this can affect the door systems performance and present health and safety risks. Ventilation holes will need to be brushed out to clear trapped dirt and grime will need to be washed away using soap, warm water and a sponge before drying with an absorbent cloth. To prevent rusting and to aid smooth functions, rollers, bearings and guide rails should be greased or oiled.

Thirdly, even if it is a small fault identified, it is important to arrange for roller shutter doors maintenance as soon as possible by a professional. This can help to prevent the issue from worsening and becoming more of a hazard. A professional maintenance service can also make sure that the door systems are being cared for following legal guidelines.

Installing Electric Roller Shutters for Barking Superstore

At UK Rapid Door Systems, we promote security and safety with our high performing shutter doors. With a range of systems to choose from, you can find what best fits your business requirements. Most recently we have installed Electric Roller Shutters at the ASDA Superstore in Barking. This is the second out of five ASDA stores in the process of organising their system upgrades.

Regardless of your business size, security and protection should be a priority. Many businesses invest in security upgrades to protect cash and property, to prevent unauthorised access or for health and safety purposes. Electric Shutter Doors can play a major role in your premise’s security, which is why ASDA has requested for a total of 7nr shutters to be installed.

Fire Safety

Each panel on the installed Roller Shutters is connected to ASDA’s fire alarms. Then, during a fire alarm the Roller Shutter doors will automatically open to create an accessible fire exit. During an emergency, this will provide a clear exit for staff and visitors to approach for their safety.

If fire safety is a high priority for your business, we also offer a range of Fire Shutter Doors. From Fire Exit Shutters providing clear fire exits for staff and customers to Fire Rated shutters which help contain a fire in one part of the building preventing it from spreading throughout the building these can be from Single skin shutters to insulated shutters with up to 240 minutes integrity.

Security Protection

To keep unauthorised visitors away our Retail Security Doors offer varying levels of security. They are designed using steel or aluminium for integral strength to block forcible entry attempts. Retail Security Doors are also suitable for internal or external operation, with remote operation available. Thereby providing ASDA stores with stronger security, to only allow staff with permission access behind the shutters.

Efficient Operations

All of our high performing door systems are quick and efficient to operate, so they run smoothly in busy environments. Being electric means you don’t need to manually open and close doors every time. Therefore, saving your team time and minimising distractions.

Enquiring for Electric Roller Shutters

At UK Rapid Doors we offer both manual and electric Shutter Doors. Both offering a variety of curtain slat type options to suit your security, installation and finish requirements. Suitable for both small commercial and large industrial sites, you can also have them punched for increased visibility.
