Warehouse high speed door installation for major food manufacturer

Our team are delighted to have finished a recent warehouse high speed door installation for a prominent food manufacturing company based in London.

The client, D.S.I. Foods Ltd, contacted UK Rapid Doors in need of a new fast action door system for their warehouse in Acton, North London. D.S.I specialise in producing and distributing food for the transport and retail sectors, with clients including British Airways, Qantas, Virgin Trains and Harrods.

Their operations team required a bespoke installation of high-speed doors, with the key elements being maintaining temperature within their processing units and ensuring ease of movement in what is a high-traffic area central to the daily output.

To meet these requirements our team designed a fast-action door system complete with radar motion sensors that provide automatic opening on approach. This functionality will help to speed up access and efficiency but also save precious seconds when sustaining temperature levels.

Both the manufacture and installation of the new system was a success, with a striking ‘orange door’ design chosen that will certainly add colour to this area of the warehouse whilst improving climate management and increasing productivity.

Zip Speed Door Installation for Worcestershire Hub

UK Rapid Doors are delighted to have completed a recent Zip Speed Door project for a nationally recognised client.

Our team installed a new application for Biffa Waste at one of their regional hubs based in Droitwich Spa, replacing an antiquated manual fold system that was no longer fit for purpose.

An unusual specification, the new shutters were installed within a temporary fabric building that is used to repair Biffa bins, meaning that the new shutters were installed within the existing structure.

The work was required in order to improve the speed with which the temporary building could be opened during busy working times and also to reduce exposure to poor weather and cold. Following an exploratory site visit our design team created the perfect solution for the client, before the manufacture of a bespoke installation just for this application was created.

The client was very impressed with the new door installation and the improved accessibility has been beneficial for day-to-day operations.

A successful Turbo Fold High Speed Doors installation in Derbyshire

Our team recently completed an essential installation of Turbo Fold High Speed Doors for a client based in south Derbyshire.

The customer, one of the UK’s leading masonry support and product manufacturers, approached UK Rapid Door Systems in order to solve a traffic flow and temperature problem within their manufacturing plant.

Their Site Manager, Simon Deakin, explained that two existing roller shutters within their premises were taking up to 60 seconds to open and close, causing various operational problems. This was not only leaving production staff frustrated with the continuous draft and temperature loss, but also making conditions difficult for fork lift drivers requiring quick and easy access.

With a solution needed as soon as possible, our specialist surveyor met with Simon the following day to assess their requirements. The client was very conscious of health and safety and insisted that a safety system was paramount to offering a high level of performance and convenience.

It was decided that replacement high-speed systems would be fitted inside the space used by the existing roller shutters. Our new Turbo Fold High Speed door model was identified as the perfect solution for both applications as it offers the highest safety light grid system on the market and a Level 5 wind load certification.

UK Rapid Door Systems manufactured and installed both doors within 16 days of the initial order approval, with the new installations both manufactured at our in-house production facility in Smethwick.

We’re delighted to confirm that Simon and his team are extremely happy with their new doors, helping them to return to normal operations and improving productivity.

High speed door installation for Birmingham engineering firm

Our team are delighted to have completed a new High Speed Door installation at a local engineering company based in Birmingham.

The client, Guhring Limited, is a world class manufacturer of precision cutting tools and allied tooling, serving the engineering and manufacturing industries since 1973.

They contacted UK Rapid Doors as the company was experiencing production problems due to the time their existing Insulated Sectional door was taking to open and close.

This issue had made it difficult to manage the airborne pollution and temperature fluctuation within their plant, having an adverse effect on the precision engineering production process.

Guhring’s Plant Manager Rob Fryer got in touch with us on November 27^th in search of a quick and divisive way to solve the issue, and UK Rapid Doors were only too pleased to oblige.

Our team quickly surveyed the site before recommending and agreeing a tailored solution with the client. Aware of the time restraints effecting the customer, we pushed through manufacture and installation of a new high speed door within two and a half weeks.

The finished installation was completed by December 12^th.

Rob was delighted with the pricing of the new door and the speed and precision of service offered by our team. We’re happy to report that the new Zip Speed Door has solved the original production issues that the company had encountered, helping them to become more productive and efficient in their essential day-to-day operations.

Unfortunately, a TNT lorry decided to drive straight through the new door just a fortnight after it was installed!

But even this was not a major problem, with the innovation zip technology used to manufacture the new model it only took a quick recommissioning visit to get the door fixed and back to full speed.

Retail Security Shutter installation in South London

The team at UK Rapid Doors are pleased to have completed another successful security shutter door installation within the retail sector.

Work to install four new shutters was recently performed on behalf of a major UK grocery chain at one of their local convenience stores in the borough of Wimbledon, South London.

The project (pictured above) was finished to the complete satisfaction of the client, with works undertaken during quiet periods and evenings in order to prevent any disruption to the regular operations of the store.

Looking back on our highlights of 2018

As the new year arrives, we can look back proudly on our highlights of 2018 in what has been a very busy and successful 12 months for the team here at UK Rapid Doors.

We’ve installed state-of-the-art door systems for clients across the UK over the past 12 months, working with partners in a wide range of sectors in locations in the West Midlands and beyond.

So as we welcome in the New Year, here we remember some of the projects and products that have been highlighted here on our blog during 2018.

Temperature Controlled Doors

Way back in January we unveiled our new The Ice Freezer Door. This innovative temperature-controlled application was designed and manufactured to answer demand from UK businesses such as food processing companies that require temperature-critical working environments.

Safety first

In March we responded to reports of a rise in accidents related to industrial door systems by outlining the key safety measures that should be made during installation and use. These include using trained operators, professional contracting and scheduled maintenance.

On camera!

May saw us showcase three of our latest door installations via video. Our cameras captured a new Security Shutter system installed at a shopping centre in Walsall, a Turbo Fold Door at a Midlands’ warehouse and an Industrial Shutter application in Kidderminster.

Back to school

As the 2018 summer holidays began, we addressed the increased government pressure to improve fire safety in educational facilities. UK Rapid Doors is a leading manufacturer of high-quality Fire Safety Shutters, as certified by the Warrington Certification.

Busy times

In October we reported on a hectic final quarter of the year for the team at UK Rapid Doors. We highlighted existing works in the West Midlands and London and an ongoing partnership with the ASDA superstore chain, plus our forthcoming work for a council development in Birmingham.

In November we completed a major installation of bespoke Turbo Fold Doors in Northamptonshire. These works were performed within five days on behalf of the WM Morrison’s supermarket chain at their new distribution centre at Latimer Park in Kettering.

Turbo Fold Door roll-out at major UK distribution centre

UK Rapid Doors are delighted to have completed a recent project for one of the biggest supermarket chains in the UK.

Our team installed nine of our new design Turbo Fold Doors at WM Morrison’s distribution centre at Latimer Park in Kettering, Northamptonshire – all for our trade partner Andrew Peters.

A challenging external installation where all the all the doors were projected off vertical steels which were set 250mm from the cladding line, our team managed to complete the works within 5 days.

Morrisons requested back to back fixing arrangement to provide maximum width for their fleet of HGV vehicles, a feature that could only be accommodated with our new inboard motor design.

All doors were produced in the UK at our production facility in Birmingham, our innovative Turbo Fold Doors have been upgraded to offer the following features:

Guide projection depth has been reduced to prevent unwanted noise in windy conditions
Framework is designed in galvanised steel as standard
Powder coating to any RAL colour is available
Hood is now a continuous arrangement (no unsightly step out box for motor)
Safety upgraded from basic wireless safety edge and 1 single photo cell to a light curtain with 16 safety photo cells
Headroom has been reduced from 1000mm to 825mm
Feig Inverter system comes as standard
Turbo Fold door design has impacted the Installation time which has been reduced by 30% compared to the old-style design
Turbo Fold door design has streamlined production throughput and improved delivery period by a massive 25% compared to the old-style design
Guide sections have been increased from 150mm to 250mm to enhance the already impressive level 5 wind load certification
The product cost remains unchanged!

A busy period ahead for the team at UK Rapid Doors

As we enter the final quarter of the year, the team at UK Rapid Doors are delighted to have a busy schedule ahead.

Many of our forthcoming projects focus on providing new installations for the retail sector, with a range of rapid doors required by clients seeking security, fire-proofing and ease of access.

Our team have already completed a project at The Saddlers Shopping Centre in Walsall this month (pictured below), removing an antiquated shutter and installing a new state-of-the-art system at one of the centre’s two main entrances.

The new installation provides easy access for shoppers and retailers from the main Park Street shopping area, incorporating one of the largest car parking areas in the town centre and the main entrance to Walsall train station.

Looking forward to the final months of 2018 we have also been sub-contracted to provide retail shutters for two major UK supermarket chains. Our team will provide steel security shutters for use at multiple ASDA sites during the following weeks – including the design, manufacture and installation of each new system.

We have also partnered with the company responsible for providing the majority of door installations for retail premises owned by The Co-operative, with whom we will work to provide new rapid shutter systems at sites across the region.

Though UK Rapid Doors are based in the West Midlands our team undertakes retail projects across the UK. This includes a forthcoming installation of rapid action security doors for nationwide pharmacy chain Boots at their new store in Croydon, South London.

With 2019 on the horizon, the team will also be installing security shutters at the new Smith’s Wood Medical Centre in North Solihull, Birmingham, due to open in the early months of next year.
